On 19 June 2006, John joined Hayman-Joyce.
Twenty years later, a lot has changed.
Tony Blair was Prime Minister, the FIFA World Cup was taking place in Germany and Italy would go on to lift the trophy. The number one single was Maneater by Nelly Furtado.
Fast forward to 2026 and Taylor Swift tops the charts with I Knew It, I Knew You.
Over those twenty years there have been at least 32 official Budgets and major Autumn Statements, 22 politicians responsible for the housing portfolio, around 17 Housing Ministers and eight Prime Ministers.
Yet while those figures help put two decades into perspective, they don’t really explain why John has become such a well-known and respected figure at Hayman-Joyce.
For that, you need the stories.
The floods
During the floods of 2007, John was preparing to close the office when a client phoned in distress.
They had been forced to leave their property and were worried their dogs had been left in the conservatory as flood water continued to rise.
Without hesitation, John went to the property. He waded through the flood water in his suit and rescued the dogs.
By the time he returned, soaked through, the roads had been closed and he couldn’t get home.
The evening was spent in the pub with local residents, wearing clothes bought from the charity shop before spending the night on the office floor.
The following morning, he opened the office as normal.
The snow
One winter, Moreton-in-Marsh found itself cut off by heavy snowfall.
With colleagues needing to get home, John loaded them into the Land Rover and made sure they arrived safely.
On his own journey home, he came across a stranded vehicle stuck in a ditch and helped pull it free using a tow rope attached to HJ1.
The pram
One afternoon, a loud crash outside the office prompted John to investigate.
A pram carrying a baby had rolled into the road while its mother was using a nearby cashpoint.
John reacted immediately, stopping the pram before it could travel any further and helping ensure everyone was safe. He also stayed to comfort the understandably shaken mother.
More than property
Over the last twenty years, John has helped countless buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants across the North Cotswolds.
Whether helping someone buy their first home or supporting a family through the process of selling, John has always believed property is about people first. If you’re planning your next move, take a look at our Buying page or Selling page to find out how the Hayman-Joyce team can help.
John has guided people through first homes, family moves, investment purchases, downsizing decisions and everything in between.
But ask his colleagues what they remember most and they won’t start with property transactions.
Instead, they’ll remember someone who stepped forward whenever help was needed.
Those qualities are why John has become such an important part of the Hayman-Joyce team and why twenty years of John is worth celebrating.
Congratulations, John, and thank you for twenty years of dedication and for being such an important part of the Hayman-Joyce story.
